Apple’s M1 chip in the MacBook Pro 13 and MacBook Air has about twice the amount of multi-core performance, though, which means the Summit E13 Flip is not the fastest laptop for tasks like 3D rendering and video transcoding. Our model’s CPU multi-core performance is slightly slower than some of the other premium notebooks we’ve tested, like the new Dell XPS 13. The MSI Summit E13 Flip is no doubt a powerful machine, but there is room for improvement. The hardware can handle heavy loads, but there are laptops better suited to scene rendering and 3D graphics if that's a priority for you. I found it uncomfortable hovering my hand above the screen, which made drawing lines and tilted strokes difficult. Compared to the Apple Pencil for iPads, the MSI Pen is a decent option for Windows 2-in-1s, but it would have been better with palm rejection. However, the laptop’s touch screen does not have palm rejection, so the stylus works best when your hand is off the screen. The touch screen is very responsive and easy to use in tablet mode or regular mode, and the pen works just as well. If you need to do color-sensitive work as a student or starting professional, the screen will do for sRGB, but it may not be the best for HDR content as the display does not officially support it. The colors are on point, with bright and vivid tones throughout the full sRGB color gamut. The Summit E13 Flip’s screen can go up to 515 nits-way brighter than a MacBook Pro, and bright enough that you could take it on a sunny picnic without any issues. This allows you to mount webcams and other small cameras. The screen is very bright and vibrant, making it a good choice for movie lovers. The second accessory is ball head attachment that can be installed on the top of the display. This will eliminate mouse drag, which can be extremely annoying. First you have a mouse bungee that attaches to the bottom of the display, pretty much where your mouse would be. Two other cool features of the Optix MPG341CQR actually have to do with accessories. The sad part is besides that and DOTA2 there really aren’t any other major titles that are supported. We did test this in CS:GO and it worked pretty well. It works with SteelSeries Gamesense to visualize stats and more in certain titles. The RGB lighting on the front of the display is not just for show either. We kept getting the error “Please confirm that your webcam is working”. Now sadly even though Windows detected and installed the webcam (HD Webcam in Device Manager) these functions did not work in the OSD software. The display also has Smart Brightness where the display detects the environment and applies the right brightness settings. The whole idea is that if someone sits down at the display the camera recognizes them and applies their settings. This really is not a webcam per-say, it is used for facial and environment recognition. Now one thing I was really interested in checking out on this display was the built-in 720p webcam. Under the Tools menu you can do things like adjust the pointer speed, show an on-screen keyboard, power settings, magnifier, and connecting and projecting different displays. Split Window allows you to select a window layout then assign certain applications to the different sections of the layout. With a lot of screen real estate it might be hard to organize your windows efficiently. I do have to say using this instead on the default on-screen menu is so much easier.Īnother cool part of the OSD software is the Split Window feature. Some of the notable things are adding a crosshair, picture in picture settings, and even a on-screen alarm clock. In each profile there are various options that you can change. Simply clicking on these will enable the profile and I have to say the profiles are vastly different. On the main page there are quite a lot of settings and presets for FPS, Racing, RTS, RGB, Reader, Cinema, Designer, and HDR. As long as you have the USB cable connected to your PC the OSD software will work. The reason for this is MSI’s Gaming OSD software. As I mentioned you’ll never really need to use the on-screen menu to change the displays settings with the little joystick on the back of the monitor.
